Badgley Mischka Fall/Winter 2013

The Badgley Mischka format is so well tried and proven that one knows exactly what to expect at every show. The formula never changes but the fashion certainly does. For their fall winter 2013 collection designers Mark Badgley and James Mischka chose as their inspiration Alfred Hitchcock's famous Femme Fatales.

The Master of Suspense worked with 47 leading ladies over 5 decades including Ingrid Bergman, Grace Kelly, Olivia de Havilland, Joan Fontaine and Kim Novak. Glamour was often as important to his films as horror. Keeping in mind the Hollywood starlets of the period emphasized a very controlled silhouette and formal styling. Movie stars of the era were expected to appear glamorous at all times, which was a perfect set up for this collection.

The design duo's opening look of a Bolero gold embroidered jacket contrasted by a simple black dress could hardly communicate daytime chic any better. The outfits that followed suggested many of the trappings of former movie star opulence such as fur stoles but they were also updated to fit into a modern context. Toward the end came the moments that everyone was anticipating with a parade of their famous red carpet gowns.
