AFRICA FASHION DAY BERLIN
ARISE favourites Nkwo, Gloria Wavamunno, Adama Paris and Romeo Bryan are among the designers taking part in Africa Fashion Day Berlin on Tuesday 15 January.
Intended as both a celebration of African fashion and a networking opportunity for designers from African, Afro-Caribbean and Afro-German backgrounds, the event is the brainchild of founder Beatrace Oola. “We are a platform that shows the wide variety of the new young, high end, urban, global African fashion scene,” Oola says.
Now in its second season, the day includes a press conference and exhibition followed by an evening runway show and after party at the city's Hotel Adlon Kempinski. Other designers taking part include BiJou Makeda, José Hendo, Malaika Design and Nomi by Naomi. Africa Fashion Day Berlin is affiliated to Mercedez-Benz Berlin Fashion Week A/W 2013 and Oolahopes to host it biannually – proof that African fashion is truly going global.
